Having invested in the Comper solution by Spatialest, Kim Simpson, Tax Administrator for Durham County decided to expose the system to the Citizens of Durham. So, if a Citizen wished to query their assessed value they could log into Comper, view nearby sales and access all the same type of information that the Tax office used in determining that value. The result was transparency and an overall reduction in the number of informal appeals.

By exposing what’s really going on in the property market via an intuitive map-based solution like Comper, people better understand their assessed values. The net result is greater transparency and fewer appeals.
